My campaign for Place 4 on the City Council is just a week old, and I'm happy to let you know the campaign has gotten off to a fantastic start.

I'd like to thank everyone that was able to join us at the announcement party last Thursday at Threadgills. Over 200 people came by and we had a great time. I also want to thank small business owner Lisa Tipps and local developer Joe Lamy for their kind words of introduction for me.

Austin is a city with tremendous natural beauty, a vibrant local economy, unique neighborhoods, and a creative energy and passion second to none. We are the envy of much of the nation.

But we also face the challenge of protecting what we love about this city and promoting quality of life for all our residents while facing the prospect of tremendous growth in the coming years.

How do we create a world class city while making a place where everyone in our community has an opportunity for housing, employment and a sense of security? How do we maintain the character of our neighborhoods? How do we ensure that we all have clean drinking water, basic services, and parks for everyone to enjoy? And how do we promote a City government that will protect the interests of all of us, not just special interests?
